Celebrating 20 years of EALs

1993

R&D into marine EALs began

Vickers Oils first identified the potential demand for Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (“Bio-Lubes”) and began developing and testing various formulas in our Research Laboratory in Leeds. This was followed by extensive testing and five years’ sea trials.

2002

Pioneered into the marine market with the first sterntube EAL

Vickers Oils launched the first commercially available products to the global marine industry, with the range of HYDROX BIO sterntube and thruster lubricants.

2003

Awarded for its contribution towards protecting the marine environment.

Vickers Oils are awarded the prestigious ‘Seatrade Award for Protection of Maritime and Atmospheric Environment’ at an award ceremony in London.

2006

Introduction of ECOSURE HSE to the marine industry

Following the success of our HYDROX BIO range, further product research and development resulted in the introduction of ECOSURE HSE, a range of biodegradable hydraulic fluids proven to provide superior performance when compared to similar mineral based hydraulic fluids.

2008

Biodegradable range of greases and gear oils

Launched the biodegradable range of greases and gear oils, the BIOGREASE EP2 and BIOGEAR XP.

2011

With the marine industry recognising the need for Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants the number of shipping companies using our products had grown significantly and resulted in us reaching the milestone of supplying the 1,000th vessel.

2013

Our EAL products were certified as VGP compliant.

Eleven years after 2002, the use of EALs in below-the-waterline equipment was mandated for vessels calling in US waters by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in its 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) and our EALs were certified as VGP compliant.

2016

ECOSURE EAF added to our EAL range

As the result of growing demand we extended the range of our Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants to include the ECOSURE EAF range.

2019

Opened the new state-of-the-art laboratory

To support our continuous research and development of Environmentally acceptable lubricants, we invested in the state-of-the-art R&D laboratory, 3.5 times larger than the previous laboratory.

2020

Biodegradable Wire Rope Lubricants range

As the result of growing demand we extended the range of our Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants to include the Biodegradable Wire Rope Lubricants range, VICKERLUBE BIO WRL.

2021

Corrosion Prevention Lubricants were added to our EAL range of lubricants.

To support the range and offer a biodegradanle alternative for corrosion prevention product to the marine industry, we launched VICKERLUBE BIO CPF.
