Brocklebank Preservation Society (BPS)

The Brocklebank Preservation Society (BPS) recently contacted Vickers Oils as they needed NEOX D to service the stern tube on board their vessel, BROCKLEBANK.

 Norman Dibbert, BPS Treasurer, commented

“When we contacted Vickers Oils and explained our requirements and the current situation, they kindly offered to supply the lubricant for free and also to pay for the delivery. We cannot thank Vickers Oils enough for their generosity and this gesture will help keep the tug Brocklebank afloat in a safe and fully operational condition.”

The BROCKLEBANK tug was built in Northwich in 1964 and spent the next 25 years working for the Alexandra Towing Company helping ships in and out of Liverpool docks with occasional trips to other ports such as Belfast, Barrow and Heysham to help with ship movements. In 1982 she was tasked with escorting the Royal yacht Britannia when Queen Elizabeth II visited Liverpool to review the tall ships.

In 1989 when the tug retired from active service, the Merseyside Maritime Museum purchased it and chartered it to the Brocklebank Preservation Society (BPS) to maintain and operate the vessel. The vessel is normally based in the Albert Dock area of Liverpool where it is open to the public during Bank Holidays, tourist events and on other occasions.

BPS is a small charity whose volunteers are mostly retired seafarers but also include other professions. The one over-riding passion is to maintain the vessel and to show it off to visitors. The majority of income comes from donations from the public and fund raising which has been particularly difficult recently due to recent events and shutdowns.
