The team at Vickers Oils worked together to help a customer achieve their desired results for their Rustler 36 yacht

Once again, the team at Vickers Oils worked together to help a customer achieve their desired results when searching through our range of Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants after their engineer notified them that their stern oil gland reservoir was empty.

The customer owns a Rustler 36 yacht, otherwise known as, ‘Flying Cloud II’, used by several entrants in the single handed round the world Golden Globe Race. She is a very well found British design and was built in the Rustler yard in Falmouth in 1999 and launched in 2002.

After purchasing their Rustler 36, 2 seasons ago then going through a major upgrade at their local boatyard, the ship was on her voyage – cruising Brittany, Atlantic France & Northern Spain. Upon her return to her home port, the engineer notified the customer that the stern gland oil reservoir was empty.

With no previous information available, the customer did some research and came across Vickers Oils HYDROX BIO 68 sterntube oil.

The Product

HYDROX BIO 68 is a viscosity grade which is used for the orderly running of the stern tube. Not only is Vickers Oils HYDROX BIO 68 a premium product, it is also part of our range of Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants, combatting environmental concerns and providing ships with the vital lubrication that they need to run smoothly.

Although HYDROX BIO 68 was the suitable product for the required application, the initial volume required by the customer did not meet our minimum order quantity requirements.

However, as a goodwill gesture, the decision was made by the team to not only send this order as a sample, free of charge but also cover the delivery cost for the customer. As a mark of appreciation, the customer, in return, decided to share with us their experience and images of their ship.

‘Having identified a problem with my stern gland lubrication and looking for an environmentally friendly product, I enquired if Vickers Oils could assist. Considering it was a relatively small amount, I was very grateful for the expert advice and excellent service provided by Marvin & the team at Vickers Oils.’ Neil Akerman, Owner, Rustler 36
